Technovation
About

Technovation is a global challenge started in California in 2009 and has since grown to encourage 10,000 girls across 78 countries to pursue technology courses and careers.  Girls work in teams of 3-5 students and are challenged to identify a problem in their community, research and create a mobile app that solves the issue.  Student teams work closely with mentors to build the idea into a working app with a business plan as guided through the curriculum.

Technovation Windsor-Essex

Connecting Windsor-Essex work with schools to encourage school aged girls to join the challenge.  Over a 12 week period the teams are matched with female mentors who work together through a curriculum set out by Technovation.  All girls should be from the same school, with a teacher sponsor to organize teams while learning how to develop a concept for an online application, map a business plan, while learning the basics of programming and marketing.

The teams will meet as a group weekly where volunteer mentors from the University of Windsor, St Clair College or the Tech industry will deliver the curriculum.  The meet ups will be held at locally sponsored venues, and libraries.

Technovation is an annual challenge.  Registration is open from September to December.  Teams are matched with mentors to begin the season in January, commencing the 12 weeks in February.  Upon completion of the 12 weeks there is a regional pitch competition where teams pitch their applications to local judges and compete for prizes.  There is a possibility to compete globally in California.
